Abstract
The project is actually entitled "A Question of Boundaries?: An examination of how migration discourses at a city and national level
within post-Brexit referendum UK in Scotland and England constitute communities" [but that does not fit above]. This project - succinctly defined as an examination of 'how debates around migration, at two spatial scales - the city and the nation - within the UK, work to constitute where the boundaries of a political community are drawn' -- is politically salient, e.g., given Brexit and Scottish sentiments, and well constructed. Its most novel aspect is the focus on the discursive construction of national identities/communities and their 'boundaries' not only at the national but also at the local (i.e., city) level. This novel departure allows the project to investigate the construction of 'nested identities' - simultaneous interpellation into multiple identities -- through interactions between the local/city and the national in elite and media constructions of boundaries/community identities in migration discourses.
