Abstract
Summary:
The project examines the effect of minimal additional language exposure on non-linguistic aspects of cognition in children. Specifically, the project examines the development of cognitive control (executive functions) in English speaking children with minimal exposure to a second language (Welsh) in school, in comparison with their monolingual peers.
The study aims to address central questions in the field regarding benefits of bilingualism, specifically in relation to enhancement of executive functions. Outputs are expected to inform current theoretical and methodological controversies.
