Abstract
The purpose of the research is to contribute to the ESRC 2023 -2030 primary mental health goal - reducing the numbers of younger people with persistent mental health problems (ESRC, 2020). The research will give voice to young people with lived experience and challenges with wellbeing, through participatory research with Youth Cynmru. Understanding the needs of young people is required to implement the Well Being of Future Generations Act (2015) - to promote the social, environmental, economic and cultural resources for wellbeing (Howe, 2020). The research will support this by exploring the unique ways young adults mobilise affective and relational resources within the community to foster well-being. This will be underpinned by an indepth and sustained psycho-social qualitative study of n=20 young people, utilising a purposive sampling strategy for maximum variation, in conjunction with Youth Cymru's Llys Ifanc group. Ethical considerations and principles of co-production will be core features of the proposed research.
