Data-driven insights into precision medicine

Lead Research Organisation: University of Edinburgh
Department Name: Sch of Molecular. Genetics & Pop Health

Abstract

Educating medical professionals, who are experts in both health and data sciences, is important because gaining knowledge in interdisciplinary fields is challenging. Although there are numerous research works related to analysing students' learning outcomes and providing effective strategies and personalised pathways for training, there is no comprehensive research that has studied precision medicine or health-related students. Therefore, it is required to do a research project for analysing students in precision medicine in order to find insights for designing an effective curriculum.

This project aims to find important features that are contributed to precision medicine students' outcomes. By finding important features, we will discover valuable insights which can improve the students' performance.

The main goals of the project are listed in the following:

- Finding learning strategies that are used by students and investigating the relationship between the strategies with the student's performance.
- Analysis of students' engagement patterns in order to find effective types of materials for teaching
- Developing an artificial intelligence tool for applying a personalised learning pathway. This tool can be used as an assistant for education.
