A Rainbow of self-assembled Chromogenic Thin Films

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Chemistry

Abstract

This PhD project will focus on the synthesis and self-assembly of water-soluble electrochromic materials based on small aromatic organic molecules. These materials will then be processed in thin films to be can be used in devices that reversibly change colour from transparent to coloured upon the application of an external stimulus. We are particularly interested in using small voltage but will also explore light and heat. Such materials can be used for sensors, smart glass, optical devices etc.
