Gas-induced differential refractive index guidance in hollow core fibres
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Southampton
Department Name: Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC)
Abstract
This project is focussed on characterisation and applications of gas-filled hollow core fibres (HCFs). Specifically, you will investigate a novel effect which we have very recently discovered, whereby the optical properties of a HCF can be dramatically modified by applying differential gas pressure between the core and cladding regions of the fibre. You will explore the potential to exploit this effect in various applications, and the project will involve elements of fibre design as well as lab-based experimental work. There is substantial scope within this research area for innovation and this work will suit a creative and self-motivated candidate. There will be opportunities to collaborate with internal and external partners and to publish results at international conferences and in leading journals.
