Sustainable and resilient infrastructure using stainless steel
Lead Research Organisation:

Abstract
This project will investigate the use of stainless steel for key connection parts i.e. joints in steel framed buildings. Stainless steel components from both conventional and additive manufacturing production routes will be studied. Through a combination of focussed laboratory testing and detailed numerical modelling, this project aims to generate the necessary fundamental data and understanding on the response of stainless steel structural elements to extreme loads and to provide the currently lacking technical information to enable an informed judgement on material selection. On the basis of the findings of the experimental study and of the associated numerical modelling, guidance on the strategic use of stainless steel for enhanced resilience of infrastructure will be developed.
