Islands of entanglement

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: Sch of Mathematical Sciences

Abstract

The paradox of recovering information from black holes has been studied by theorists for over 40 years, since Hawking discussed black hole radiation. Recent studies suggest that information recovery is related to islands of entanglement localised behind the black hole horizon. The original arguments for the existence of these islands came from two-dimensional gravity and the replica trick. The goal of this project will be to explore how islands can be described with the best understood examples of holography, including AdS3/CFT2, and without reference to the replica trick.
