The challenges of moving face-to-face probability-based panel surveys to online data collection

Lead Research Organisation: London School of Economics and Political Science
Department Name: Methodology

Abstract

This studentship, which is part of a collaboration between LSE and Kantar Public UK Division, will focus on the challenges of online probability-based panel surveys.

Face-to-face surveys are considered as the gold standard in survey methodology in ensuring low survey errors. However, with decreasing response rates and increasing costs associated with face-to-face survey, there is a general move to alternative survey methodologies such as online probability-based panels. Online surveys offer many advantages over face-to-face interviewing such as, reduced costs, more frequent interviewing in longitudinal studies, the potential to include hard to reach groups and faster delivery of the results.
