Recovery and characterisation of high value functional proteins from leaf and vegetable sources for applications in the food sector

Lead Research Organisation: University of York
Department Name: Biology

Abstract

The project explores the application of innovative processing technologies (including microwaves and scCO2) to convert
UFSCW and renewable resources e.g lignocellulosic and agricultural residues into high-value chemicals. Application of a
biorefinery model to a range of bioresources will yield a portfolio of useful chemicals including sugars, proteins, platform
molecules and monomeric building blocks (for polymer production e.g PHAs, di-acids etc). The project will advance
knowledge into novel processing methodologies and explore how they can be applied to renewable resources.
