Forecasting by Learning the Evolution-driving Function

Lead Research Organisation: Brunel University London
Department Name: Mathematics

Abstract

During my time as an undergraduate student studying BSc Mathematics, I discovered my interests were
in applied mathematics, enjoying modules such as; Nonlinear Programming, Optimisation, Quantum
Mechanics, Modelling Experimental Data, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations. My final year
research project involved learning and applying Finite Difference methods to solve systems of ODEs
using Python. The natural progression for myself would be applying for further study incorporating
these areas of mathematics. After attaining a First class with honours in BSc Mathematics from the
University of Essex, I was admitted onto the MSc Mathematical Modelling course at UCL. My interest
in Stochastic modelling was kindled during my time on this course, from Probability theory and
Markov
chains to Stochastic Differential Equations.
