Abstract
This study examines narratives, and histories, of net zero energy in West Bengal within broader developmental trajectories in rural West Bengal, India. The qualitative research uses key informant interviews, semi -structured interviews, focus group discussion, village transect walks and discourse analysis to inform the study. The research intends to investigate the tensions and challenges that forms the everyday lived experiences of the people in rural Bengal around Net Zero energy transitions. In essence, it will contribute to the emerging field of energy transition research in the Global South in general and India in particular. The research situates itself in the epistemological strand of knowledge on critical development studies and political ecology. Thus, past historical and socio-economic realities will help in foregrounding the current energy transition.
