Smart Energy Infrastructure for Future Power Networks

Lead Research Organisation: Brunel University London
Department Name: Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Abstract

This project aims to explore and harness the benefits associated with the digitalisation of power systems and the
developments of smart grids as cyber-physical energy systems. As power systems become increasingly complex
alongside information and communication technologies (ICT), their simulation methods must also mature in
accordance. There does not exist a simulator which sufficiently simulates power systems intertwined with their
communications side counterpart on a large scale. Also, new ICT requires capable simulation before implementation
on power systems. My research aims to explore:
- Smart grid co-simulation
- Power system and communication
modelling theory
- Digital twins applications
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Renewable Energy Sources (RES) integration

This project will most likely mainly be produced through computational and simulation packages
on a desktop/workstation.
