Terrestrial Planets in the era of PLATO

Lead Research Organisation: University of Warwick
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

Reassessment of the terrestrial planets in the Kepler deep field and assessment of the capabilities of PLATO for their re-observation. This involves using data from the Kepler Input Catalogue for the relevant host stars and updating with Gaia results and then reassessing the host properties and their implication on the planetary properties. Simulation of the results using the PLATO simulation tool is needed.
In addition we want to give the student an observational element to their project so have devised an extra component using a telescope dedicated to high speed observations in order to search for small planets in the halo's of globular clusters through their microlensing signature (as has been hinted at by HST observations). This properties plays into the hands of the experience of the PhD Student.
