Design and Development of Digital Twin for Manufacturing Assembly Lines

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Engineering

Abstract

A Digital Twin is a digital replica of a physical asset or system that mirrors the operational and condition status of the physical system and allows for feedback and control to it based on models, simulations and optimization algorithms. This project will be carried out in collaboration with Siemens Energy, and will focus on the design, development and deployment of a digital twin of a manufacturing/assembly line. The core purpose of this digital twin is to understand how the operational and process parameters of manufacturing affects product quality. The project will therefore involve definition of data requirements, development of appropriate data capture solutions, and development of suitable models to create insights about the manufacturing process. It is expected that this PhD project will systematically produce a blueprint of digital twin of a manufacturing line
