Intersectionality and Sex Work: An Exploration of How Entrenched Precarities Shape Experiences of Sex Work within Contrasting Regulatory Frameworks

The proposed research project seeks to examine a range of intersecting social factors that are often omitted from analyses of sex work (both in the UK, and internationally). The project aims to contextualise ongoing debates on the decriminalisation and criminalisation of sex work within wider structures of poverty, gender, and class. The student made clear in the interview that they would seek full ethical approval in line with the ESRC and Swansea University ethical procedures. Data collection would be facilitated through existing networks that the candidate has developed through their work with organisations such as Women's Aid, Safety First Wales, Caru Am Byth and Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service. Her supervisors both have experience of conducting research in this field and will be sure to work closely with the candidate to help her navigate the ethical challenges she will face.
