Abstract
This project is to search for new physics signals in the Run 3 proton-proton collision data at the Large Hadron Collider using the ATLAS detector. Deviations from the Standard Model expectations at low invariant mass could indicate new/exotic physics, for example the existence of dark photons or at high invariant mass, new gauge bosons such as the Z' or graviton.
After Run 3, the LHC will be upgraded to the High-Luminosity LHC. This will require a major upgrade of the ATLAS detector, including a new all-silicon inner tracking detector (ITk). As part of the ACTS project, the ATLAS track reconstruction software is being rewritten with improved algorithms and modern software engineering practices to take full advantage of the new detector and emerging computing architectures.
The studentship includes developing new track reconstruction software for the ITk, as well as performing an analysis to search for new physics.
