Realising the environmental benefits of faba beans (Vicia faba L.) via optimised nutrition and nitrogen fixation
Lead Research Organisation:
Harper Adams University
Department Name: Agriculture and Environment
Abstract
Ultimately, the aim of this project is to provide PGRO with the appropriate research such that they are able to update their nutrient provision recommendations for growers of faba beans in the UK to achieve higher and more stable yields. This will encourage farmers to incorporate faba beans into their rotations more widely. Higher production of faba beans in the UK will form the basis of the necessary shift towards a more sustainable agricultural system.
This project will also fill a significant knowledge gap in the literature regarding the optimisation of rate and timing of mineral nutrition of faba beans in the UK climate.
