How do you compensate? Creating a measure for compensatory consumption and assessing its relation

Lead Research Organisation: University of Kent
Department Name: Kent Business School

Abstract

Introduction
You wanted to do something or look a certain way, but you couldn't, and now you're faced with a discrepancy between your current self and the self you wanted to be. How do you deal with this?
This project will develop a measure to examine compensatory consumer behaviour (CCB) based on Mandel et al.'s (2017) five-category CCB framework (studies 1a, 1b, 1c), and examine how personality influences CCB engagement (study 2). Creating a valid measure to assess CCB will provide a useful tool for researchers, and linking CCB to personality will help to create targeted CCB interventions
