Transmission spectroscopy studies of exoplanet atmospheres

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

This work involves the reduction and analysis of data collected by the Spectroscopy and Photometry of Exoplanet Atmospheres Research Network (SPEARNET). SPEARNET is using a globally distributed network of optical and near-IR facilities to study the atmospheres of transiting exoplanets. The goal of SPEARNET is to develop tools and processes for the robust study of exoplanet atmospheres with multiple telescopes and to undertake statistical studies of the atmospheres of hot Jupiters and Neptunes from a sample of planets chosen with a quantifiable selection function. This PhD project will involve working with spectroscopy and photometric data to construct multi-wavelength transit lightcurves of our target systems, as well as to model and analyse them.
