Abstract

Ni-rich positive battery electrodes, also known as nickel-rich positive electrode materials or cathode materials, are a critical component of lithium-ion batteries Li-ion batteries and other advanced energy storage systems. These electrodes play a pivotal role in the overall performance and efficiency of rechargeable batteries, making them a subject of extensive research and development in the pursuit of more powerful, longer-lasting, and safer energy storage solutions. They offer higher energy density, longer cycle life, improved safety, and potentially lower costs compared to traditional cathode materials. However, addressing their challenges and environmental considerations is crucial for realizing their full potential and making them a sustainable choice for the future of energy storage technology.

In this project, new battery electrode compositions will be investigated Phase identification will be performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphology and element distribution of the materials will be analysed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS). Transmission electron microscope (TEM) will be used for further observation of the material morphology. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED). Electrochemical performance will be investigated.
