Towards an understanding of the physical relationships between quasar populations

Abstract
The standard quasar model predicts no fundamental differences between quasar populations, when the measured properties are corrected for the impact of obscuration. However, recent research has uncovered fundamental differences between blue, red, and obscured quasars suggesting more complex relationships, apparently related to the presence of dust. The objective of this PhD project is to use new optical spectroscopic observations from the DESI and 4MOST surveys with associated multi-wavelength observations to start to uncover the physical relationships between different quasar populations.
