Climate change impacts on Antarctic marine top predators

Lead Research Organisation: UNIVERSITY OF EXETER
Department Name: Ecology and Conservation

Abstract

The project will be building habitat models from two sets of tracking data from two colonies of Antarctic fur seals, one in South Georgia and one on the Antarctic peninsula. It will also utilise stable isotope analyse on whiskers and seal teeth from these colonies that have been collected over the last 100 years. This should give us data on how their diet and nutrition has changed over time. One colony on South Georgia has a population that is in decline, this study could help identify possibilities for this decline.
