Stigma Experienced By Vegan Mothers Within The Uk, Due To Being Vegan While Pregnant And For Raising Their Children Vegan.

Lead Research Organisation: CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: Cardiff School of Planning and Geography

Abstract

The proposed PhD research will expand the insights gained with the exploratory research carried out with the Master dissertation and will address a clear gap in the literature by investigating if there is a lack of education and understanding of the impact of a vegan diet (VD) for pregnant women and babies among Health Professionals, such as GPs, obstetricians, and gynaecologists.
Moreover, it will analyse whether mums from different regions, incomes, ages, etc experience this stigma evenly or if this is felt particularly by a certain group.
A qualitative research design will be used as the research questions will be answered more effectively with an in-depth exploration of participant opinions in a way that quantitative research would not allow. The methodology chosen is semi-structured interviews and group interviews.
School ethical approval will be gained before starting the data collection, no specific ethical issues are envisaged.
