Interspecies cities: spatial governance practices, dilemmas and future

Lead Research Organisation: CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: Cardiff School of Planning and Geography

Abstract

The project aims to understand the production of interspecies spaces and its relationship to urban spatial governance. It aims to identify the forms of more-than-human relationships that emerge. It will focus on animals that are 'invisible' because of their size (e.g. insects), their legal status (e.g. strays) or where they live (e.g. pets in private houses). Other studies have investigated animals' place in urban governance, but the cultural and political context of China will take this project in a different direction. The research involves ethnography, interviews, a questionnaire and a review of secondary literature
