Development of grid-scale wave energy technology via novel, engineering-integrated numerical modelling

Lead Research Organisation: University of Edinburgh
Department Name: Sch of Engineering

Abstract

This project aims to improve the structural design of Mocean Energy's Wave Energy Converter by adapting structural loads and reliability analysis to such a novel, complex and hinge-connected WEC. Below is a list of the main objectives of this EngD, providing realistic and supportive steps towards the overall project aim.
O1: Define hydrodynamic & structural analysis models
O2: Model hydrodynamic load distribution over the WEC
O3: Conduct reliability analysis on the WEC using distributed loads
O4: Assess structural costs of the WEC
O5: Evaluate different WEC design variations regarding reliability and costs
