Reconceptualising mental health law through experiences of people with psychosocial needs in Georgia

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: Law School

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the legal environment for mentally disabled people to exercise their rights in Georgia and explore the theoretical frameworks that can serve as the starting point to analyse and address different barriers that mentally disabled people encounter in their efforts to be included within the society, on an equal basis with others. For this purpose, Ketevan will look at different disability theories and will examine international human rights standards in mental health law and the national laws, court practices and policy documents regulating mental health law in Georgia.
