Abstract
The aim of the research, would be to perform an interdisciplinary study into the creation of a multi-functional land use framework in England, examining which sources of evidence are dominant in decision making, why, and what these reveal about the needs, constraints, and values of those forming the policies. Following this, an examination of the ways in which this interacts with the experiences and values of those at the delivery scale through participatory methods would seek to examine where views and needs align or clash across scales, and how the process may be improved for social and environmental outcomes.
Research would be:
Tackling area in need of careful consideration: how to make good decisions to enhance multi-functional land use.
Developing area around use of scientific evidence which is blurry and in need of more nuanced/careful approaches.
Using insight from nascent projects to consolidate learnings and provide much-needed bottom-up insights and context.
Develop wider theory on methods for governing complex, dynamic systems.
Useful both to decision makers and in developing literature.
