Abstract
Oxford will use the 2010 Grant Balance funding to help manage the transition period between the cessation of project studentship support (2011) and the next call for CDT funding. Postgraduate research (PGR) students are a strategic priority for Oxford, and an integral part of research in the mathematical, physical and life sciences. Targeted support will be given to departments with the highest concentrations of project students, in order to help sustain the vitality of the PGR community in these areas.
Planned Impact
The principal impact of this funding will be the delivery of highly-skilled and trained researchers. This will benefit both industry and academia, depending on the subsequent career trajectory of the funded students following completion of their postgraduate research.
Given the areas of research where support will be targeted, there is also potential for economic benefit through the commercialisation of research outputs. However, at this stage, it is not possible to identify precise beneficiaries.
