Observing galaxies in the young Universe with JWST
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Edinburgh
Department Name: Sch of Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
The aim of this project is to work with JWST instrument developers in the UK ATC and observational/theoretical astronomers in the University's IfA to explore the potential of JWST to resolve outstanding issues in early galaxy formation and evolution. Exisiting simulators and data reduction routines require further development prior to JWST launch in 2018, and in parallel the science case needs to be developed for the best observing strategies to lift degeneracies in galaxy properties which cannot be disentangled using existing HST and ground-based data.
