Asymmetric hybrid molecular metal oxides for synergic catalysis

Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POMs) are molecular metal oxides, typically based on W, Mo or V ions in their highest oxidation states. They exhibit a wide range of structure types and have rich electro- and photochemical properties that render them attractive candidates for new catalytic systems or as components in energy storage devices. POMs can be functionalised with organic moieties that allow their electronic properties to be effectively tuned and exploited. Until now, the asymmetric hybridisation of redox-active POMs, that will allow the coupling of multiple catalytic and electron transfer processes in one molecular assembly, has proved elusive. In this project, asymmetric hybrid POMs will be synthesised, and their properties in synergic catalysis explored.
