Deep Learning for Mobile Plant Phenotyping

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: School of Computer Science

Abstract

The focus of my PhD research is in the field of Computer Vision using Deep learning, a sub-field of Artificial Intelligence.
I will be developing novel CNN (convolutional neural network) based approaches for plant phenotyping (measuring quantitative plant traits).
My methodology will be the design and implementation of neural network architectures and pipelines to solve current and new problems in the core phenotyping tasks of Leaf Localisation and Segmentation.
The novelty of my research will focus on adapting my techniques for mobile platforms and researching how synthetic images can be used deal with the problem of limited training data available for plant phenotyping problems.
