Mapping Energy Transfer in Time and Space
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Sheffield
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
In this project the student will optimize and use a newly developed microscopy technique called stroboSCAT to track excitonic energy transfer in space and time. This project is a stand-alone project to track energy transfer pathways in organic semiconductor and biological materials, but it aligns closely with a recent £7.25M collaborative project funded by EPSRC, the aim of which is to develop a new, modular approach for the creation of photonic materials, inspired by biological photosynthetic membranes. It is hoped that some of the new materials developed within the 'molecular photonic breadboards' grant will be characterised by the student using stroboSCAT, offering the student access to cutting-edge materials and samples.
