The evolution and development of mutualistic cooperation in nonhuman primates and humans.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: School of Health Sciences

Abstract

This project fits primarily under BBSRC Panels A (animal behaviour and welfare) and C (evolutionary biology). Within the priority area of Forward Look, the project is most relevant to Theme 1, Advancing the frontiers of bioscience discovery. This project is curiosity driven in its integrative approach to understanding the evolution of human and nonhuman primate social behaviour. Specifically, the evolution of cooperation is still considered one of the major questions in science. By integrating social and biological sciences on the important topic of how people cooperate contributes to Theme 2, Bioscience for an integrated understanding of health. Within Theme 3, Building strong foundations, the project will draw together researchers in philosophy and social statistics along with psychology and biology, and will train a future leader in bioscience
