Investigation of hybrid thermochemical looping process for green hydrogen production
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Surrey
Department Name: Chemical Engineering
Abstract
The main objective of this project is to develop a new thermochemical looping process based on the application of metal/metal oxide reduction-oxidation (redox) cycles for the sustainable production of hydrogen. The hybrid approach of this system allows water splitting to take place at relatively lower temperatures compared to the current metal/metal-oxide loops. The experimental part of the project involves setting up to use of a novel electrolytic solution (transition metal hydroxide system) and measuring the performance of both the reduction and oxidation units (electrochemical cell performance, EIS analysis, and phytochemical characterisation of the active recirculating compounds).
