Towards Net Zero Dairy Farming through AI and Machine Vision (DAIRYVISION)

Lead Participant: PEACOCK TECHNOLOGY LIMITED

Abstract

This project is a bilateral collaboration with China to develop a new precision engineering solution to support the achievement of net zero dairy farming through artificial intelligence and machine vision. This will be achieved through autonomous monitoring and management of dairy cows to optimise their welfare, health and productivity. An advanced vision-based system will continuously monitor each individual cow’s behaviour, nutrition and wellbeing. Automatic alerts will advise dairy farmers of specific animals in need of their attention, for instance due to a nutrition issue or a health problem. It will facilitate an entirely new approach to managing dairy cows worldwide, both improving animal welfare and reducing environmental impacts, and through AI and new generation vision technologies help dairy farmers towards achieving the United Kingdom's ambition to achieve net zero farming by 2040.
