CORA: A new generation of exercise trackers for women

Lead Participant: CHIARO TECHNOLOGY LIMITED

Abstract

Wearable Technology has the potential to change the way that women and men exercise and
look after their bodies. The drastic reduction in the cost of sensors and the rise in use of smart
phones and exercise apps creates an exciting opportunity to develop exercise aides that can
track and provide real time bio-feedback.
The challenge is to move from passive to more active real-time feedback and to develop more
localised muscle activity feedback. Our project will investigate how we can adapt existing
sensor technologies used in clinic settings to the consumer market, in particular for women.
We aim to develop new ways of measuring muscle activity by adapting sensor systems and
machine learning algorithms to provide personalised and relevant feedback.
Giving women technology to track their exercises over time reinforces the process of building
habits that lead to a change in health and an improvement in the quality of life.
