Results and Impact | Julia Gillen gave an invited talk, "A learning community for teens on a virtual island. Invited presentation at Uusi Koulu - koulu media aikakaudella - A new school - a school for the media age. Mikkeli, Finland. 18 March." This was part of a day's discussion about the future of schooling. Description | Plenary for closing session of the day of early childhood: National Council for Teachers of English Annual Convention, USA |
Form Of Engagement Activity | A talk or presentation |
Part Of Official Scheme? | No |
Geographic Reach | International |
Primary Audience | Schools |
Results and Impact | Joint talk by Julia Gillen and Guy Merchant, entitled, "The Kids Love It-But What's It All About? Perspectives on Virtual Worlds in Classrooms." This event attracted an audience of several hundred, teachers, teacher educators, policy makers and researchers. The event arose out of interest in the topic by these audiences and so we were invited. But it would be unfeasible to claim any known impact relating to this specific activity alone. We have continued to publish, present and research in these areas, often welcomed and read by US audiences. |
