Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
Technical Summary
This proposal outlines four complementary series of experiments, each investigating a different aspect of eye movement control during reading. The first series investigates how misspellings within a word affect where and for how long we fixate those words. The second examines the impact of removing spaces between words on saccades and fixations. The third series of experiments investigates whether a gap effect occurs during reading by making each word of a sentence disappear 60 ms after fixation. The final series of experiments investigates binocular control during reading of text presented normally and dichoptically. This proposal represents a comprehensive investigation into basic oculomotor behaviour during reading.
