WISE Extreme Galaxies and Black Holes Infrared Survey

Lead Research Organisation: University of Leicester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The WISE infrared survey has covered the whole sky and highlighted some of the most dramatically powerful galaxies that have ever been seen.
By investigating the distribution and properties of the objects that WISE catalogued, including the active galaxies that have the most powerfully growing blackholes, the project student will develop new insight into the environments in which the most active galaxies formed, and about their nature, to challenge ideas about the growth and lifetime of rapidly starbursting galaxies, and supermassive blackholes in the Universe.
