Abstract
I hope to undertake a PhD studying particle physics. I greatly enjoyed learning about the intricacies of electroweak theory and quantum chromodynamics in the Cambridge Part III course, 'The Standard Model'. I was also very interested to learn about possible solutions to some of the problems with the standard model (e.g. the heirarchy problem and dark matter) in the course 'Supersymmetry and Extra Dimensions'. I am very keen to undertake research in order to develop a more comprehensive understanding of these areas. In particular, I think the area of standard model and beyond the standard model phenomenology is important for a number of reasons: to make the most of current and future experimental data, to guide future work, not to mention simply in order to have a more profound understanding of these theories. This would be an area which I would be interested very interested to research, however I am very open to other ideas
