Development of Heavy Metal High Entropy Alloys with Bioprotective Capabilities

Lead Research Organisation: University of Huddersfield
Department Name: Sch of Computing and Engineering

Abstract

High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) are a new material class with uncharted corrosion and bioprotective properties. Many HEA compositions contain heavy metal elements which are known to suppress biological activity. Moreover, it is expected that combinations of heavy atoms in HEAs can lead to synergetic suppression effects. The project will focus on the development of HEA with a range of heavy metals with biological activity which will then be evaluated for their bioprotective and suppression activity. This School and C&E led project builds on existing multidisciplinary expertise within the materials institute and as such represents a truly collaborative project.
