Lead Research Organisation: The Open University
Department Name: Faculty of Wellbg, Educ & Lang Sci(WELS)

Abstract

This project aims to:
Critically evaluate existing evaluation methodologies for behaviour change
Design, develop and test evaluation methodologies appropriate to people with learning disabilities
Use the established Beat the Bugs course, developed by PHE, to explore how behaviour change can be measured for people with learning disabilities
In this context, the project has three specific research questions. These are:
1. How can we best measure behaviour change in relation to outcomes of public health education provided to people with learning disabilities?
2. Which methods best achieve inclusive public health research with people with learning disabilities and community organisations?
3. How does a public health community education programme such as Beat the Bugs equip people with learning disabilities with knowledge and confidence to manage their hygiene, self-care and antibiotic use?
