Department Name: Materials Science & Metallurgy
Abstract
The project is focused on the development of novel refractory-based alloys, in order to achieve a particular desired microstructure. This requires investigation into the phase stability of a range of alloy compounds, both computationally and experimentally. Additional species will be included in order to improve the environmental resistance of these alloys, owing to their potential use in the aerospace industry. The effect of these elements on micro structure formation will be explored, and the resulting mechanical properties will be characterised.
