Abstract
Research Question: Does oligodendrocyte TRPA1 channel regulate glial functioning and lead to less demyelination and increased remyelination in conditional TRPA1 -/-in oligodendrocytes compared to global TRPA1 -/-mice?
Hypothesis:TRPA1 channels expressed on oligodendrocyte regulate glial functioning and become dysfunctional during demyelinating disease; TRPA1 -/-in oligodendrocytes is protective against demyelinationin the rodent cuprizone model.
Aim 1:Validate the conditional TRPA1 -/-in oligodendrocyte compared to global TRPA1 -/-mice.
Aim 2:Through use of the cuprizone model, determine the extent of demyelination in conditional TRPA1 -/-vs WT
Aim 3:Through use of the cuprizone model, determine the extent of remyelination in conditional TRPA1 -/-vs WT
