Time Resolved X-Ray Spectroscopy using Laser Wakefied Accelerators

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

Laser wakefield accelerators (LWFAs) produce femtosecond duration x-ray pulses with a very broad spectrum, making them ideal for l ultrafast X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) studies on systems which evolve rapidly. This project will explore the use of LWFA sources to investigate XAS in both high energy density physics experiments and industrial applications on existing laser Systems (such as Gemini in the U.K and Aleph in Colorado) as well as developing a new XAS platform for the UK's new EPAC facility.
