Tunable topological metasurfaces and applications on microwave/millimetre-wave antennas and circuits for future mobile and satellite communications.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: School of Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The project will develop novel designs and practical implementations of tunable topological metamaterials for millimetre-wave and sub-Terahertz systems and explore their applications in areas such as future communication systems (6G and beyond), autonomous vehicles and aerospace platforms such as aircrafts and UAVs. Novel tuning technologies will be studied and practical prototypes will be developed based on existing facilities at the University of Birmingham as well as world leading fabrication facilities and expertise provided by an industrial collaborator who will also support an internship for the PhD student.
Emphasis will be given to the development of easy to fabricate practical metamaterial designs that take into account the effect of realistic materials and easy to fabricate geometries.
