Sustainable Technological Approach to Recycling Aluminum Manufacturing Waste Streams

Lead Research Organisation: Brunel University London
Department Name: Chemical Engineering

Abstract

The recycling of aluminum has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential
to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability. While aluminum itself offers
inherent benefits, such as low density and fuel savings, the energy-intensive process of
extracting aluminum from ores has led to a growing interest in recycling aluminum
manufacturing waste streams. This research project aims to identify and validate a
sustainable technological approach for the recycling of aluminum waste streams, with a
particular focus on the manufacturing of high-purity AA6082 alloy and alumina powder.
