The effects of solar weather on the Free Space Optical Communications (FSOC) beam
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Southampton
Department Name: Sch of Engineering
Abstract
The mainstay of current research into FSOC is the effects of terrestrial weather on the beam when it transports information from the space-based network to a ground-based receiver segment. As a result, there has been little work, theoretical or practically, into the effects that space weather can have on the FSOC beam as it transports information through space.
The research will seek to understand the error incurred in an FSOC beam and wider critical system elements caused solar ejections or space weather.
