The demographics of the L and T dwarf populations

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

The student will quantify the properties of the population of L and T dwarfs by analysing the new large homogeneous sample of 1361 sources compiled by Skrzypek et al. The principal goals are i) to derive the luminosity function and scale height of the populations, ii) to derive a quantitative and objective data-driven classification scheme, independent of the current subjective spectral scheme.
